CMDCM (IW/AW/SW) John H. Walker Jr.

Command Master Chief, U.S. Fleet Cyber Command / U.S. TENTH Fleet
 

Command Master Chief Walker, a native of Hinesville, GA, attended basic training at RTC Great Lakes, IL in 1997.  Upon graduation from basic training and the Radioman Apprenticeship course he reported to his first duty assignment onboard the USS MCFAUL (DDG 74) in Norfolk, Virginia. 
 
While stationed onboard the USS MCFAUL (DDG 74), he was advanced from Seaman Apprentice to First Class Petty Officer.  He also attended Network Administrator “C” school and obtained his Communication Watch Officer qualification.  During his tour he qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) and completed deployments to the SIXTH and FIFTH Fleet AOR’s.  On September 11th, 2001 Master Chief Walker was deployed in the FIFTH Fleet and was onboard one of the initial units participating Operation Enduring Freedom.  
 
From late 2002 to 2005 he served as an instructor at Information Systems Technician “A” School in Great Lakes, IL.  Promoting to Chief Petty Officer in 2004, he was assigned as the Curriculum Development LCPO.  In this assignment he was responsible for establishing knowledge and skill requirements and developing the curriculum to support them.  He earned his Master Training Specialist Certification, and transferred to COMUSNAVEUR/COMSIXTHFLT in Naples, Italy.
 
While in Europe he was assigned as the Flag Communications LCPO for the European theater.  In this role he was responsible for all communication teams in support of Flag Officers throughout the AOR, Navy NATO commanders in the Balkans, and the Flag Officer for the NATO Training Mission to Iraq (NTMI).  Additionally, while stationed in Europe he designed and commissioned the communication team for the newly formed Navy Africa Command (NAVAF) and transferred to Millington, TN.
 
As an enlisted rating distribution specialist (Detailer) he was responsible at first for all Atlantic FCPO’s in the Information Systems Technician rating.  During this tour he advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer and became responsible for Pacific Fleet Chief Petty Officer assignments and in 2011, transferred to the Pre-commissioning Unit ANCHORAGE (LPD 23).
 
Completing the training pipeline for San Antonio Class LPD’s in San Diego, he reported to Avondale, LA for construction and outfitting of the ship.  Upon finalizing all trials for commissioning the unit and as the C5I LCPO onboard, he completed the homeport change to San Diego, CA.  While onboard he earned his Enlisted Information Dominance Warfare Specialist (EIDW) and was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer and selected for the Command Master Chief Program.
 
Selected in 2014 for the Command Master Chief (CMC) Program, his first CMC tour was Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA-97) Warhawks in Lemoore, CA where he served for the next three years and deployed to the SEVENTH Fleet AOR and earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist (EAWS).   During his follow-on CMC tours, he guided Carrier Air Wing NINE through a round the world deployment and USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN 74) homeport change from Bremerton, WA to Norfolk, VA.  His next tour was as CMC for Carrier Strike Group ELEVEN (CCSG 11), completing the unprecedented 11 month deployment during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Master Chief Walker reported Ft. Meade, MD in January 2023 where he currently serves as the CMC for Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. TENTH Fleet/U.S. Navy Space.  
 
He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (159/Blue Group), the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat course, MCPON’s Executive Leadership Symposium, the KEYSTONE Command Senior Enlisted Leader in Combined and Joint Studies Course, and the Navy Senior Leader Seminar.  He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science from University of Maryland University College and Master’s Degree in Information Systems Management from Trident University.  His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (4), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3).
